Meridian Tapping Points:  A Visual Demo

Ancient Power-Tools To Transform Emotions

This weekend I had the opportunity to take a workshop with Mantak Chia, world renowned master of the Taoist healing arts of QiGong here in Santa Cruz, California.  Over the years, I’ve dabbled with the practice of QiGong (translated, QiGong means ‘working with life energy’) and now that my focus as an athlete has shifted to more mindful movement practices, I can more deeply appreciate the benefits of the inner healing that happens through this ancient art.

Taoists believe that there is an underlying unity that exists throughout the entire universe which permeates and connects everything.  It’s interesting to note that this energy they speak of is what quantum physicists are now referring to as ‘The Field’ or the ‘Unified Field’.  Master Chia explains that there is one very simple exercise that anyone can begin with to establish health and healing of body, mind and spirit.  It’s called the Inner Smile meditation.

As I was guided through the meditation, I found myself thinking of how useful it would be as a complement to much of the work I do with my clients.  One principle of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that each organ and gland in our body is responsible for certain positive and negative  emotions.  When we feel hatred, for example, it’s stored as a negative emotion in the heart.  When we feel grief or depression, it’s held as a negative emotion in the lungs.  When we feel fear, its held at a cellular level in the kidneys.

The Inner Smile meditation allows us to release those emotions at a cellular and molecular level.  In combination with specific left-right eye movements, Master Chia says that according to the Tao we can ‘delete’ those negative programs from our body and replace them with love, light, joy, happiness and healing energies.

I was thrilled to learn that this ancient meditation does essentially the same thing as meridian tapping techniques (EFT), but just in a different way.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a master of cross-pollinating or combining healing techniques because I believe that there are many paths that lead to the same place… and what might feel good and work well for one person may not work for another.  Meridian tapping and the Inner Smile meditation are just two ways to transform negative emotions; but two that I find extremely powerful.
